Portraits in the Park

February 13, 2010Addison was born on Jan. 19; we took her pictures on the 29th. (How’s that for being on-the-ball?) She is absolutely beautiful, and pretty mellow. At the beginning of the session, we cranked the heater so we could take off her PJs. Then we set her on a big, fluffy pillow with a soft blanket over it. She was soooo out. But then we started moving her around more, and she woke up and looked around. All in all, we took a couple hundred shots over a period of an hour. Here are the best, along with the three from our initial post.
Oh yeah, and Lorelai was there, too.

February 7, 2010Samson. (It’s OK to say “Awww!”)
Can I just say that I love how puppies never get tired of this?
Unfortunately, he’s not ours–technically, he belongs to the Rosas family. But if you ask Joel, the puppy belongs to him. “Samson” has been abbreviated to “Sammy,” which has been further altered to “Hammy” by this little guy.
Quick glance at our newborn niece
January 30, 2010DISCLOSURE: We’re about to brag on the newest member of our extended family. Big time.
Well, all we’re going to do is put up a few pictures from her newborn session last night (she’s 11 days old). But it’s the same thing as bragging, because she’s so freakin’ cute!!!
Her name is Addison, her favorite color is pink (she has no choice), and her favorite thing to do is sleep. And be cute. And then go back to sleep.

January 12, 2010If you watched the slide show in our earlier post of Lorelai talking, then you’ve already seen all the best pictures of our recent session with her at Buddy Todd Park in Oceanside. But we thought it would be worth reposting a few of our favorites in higher quality. (Update: As expected, she is now saying many more words and partial words and made-up words that only she understands. She is also combining words–e.g., growing up way too fast!!!)
Happy New Year from the Pfingsten + Rosas families
January 1, 2010Back in November, Tom’s mother asked if we would do the annual honor of photographing the Pfingsten/Rosas families. This would be a particularly special session, the first time since mom and dad moved into their new house that we’ve gathered for pictures. So we chose a spot in their new neighborhood, Shady Grove, and commenced with the shooting. We even got a few good pictures of us–thanks Annie!
We start with Tom’s three nephews, who have had plenty of time in front of the camera over the years…

Lorelai talking and being cute
December 13, 2009OK, so this is something completely new and exciting for us. In the course of my (Tom’s) journalism studies at USC, I have learned how to record and edit audio, and have dabbled with video. Up at school, we were taught how to make audio slide shows to tell a story, and last week I received my first high-quality recorder in the mail. I have used it several times so far, including last Thursday, when Dori and I sat down with our 19-month-old niece, Lorelai (who has been featured here plenty of times before).
Lulu, as she is known, has been pulling new words out of thin air for the past couple of months, and her lexicon has at least 100 clearly identifiable words in it as of this week. In another six months, much of the baby talk will be gone. So we decided to record it, now, at the height of its cuteness. We missed a few words, to be sure, but we captured most of the sounds that make us smile whenever we’re around Lorelai, and we’ve set them against a backdrop of her most recent pictures, taken at Buddy Todd Park on Thursday.

Christmas crazy
December 12, 2009We have a TON of stuff to do before we fly to Manila on Thursday. A literal ton.
But we had the good fortune of spending an hour with our niece, Lorelai, at a park in Oceanside this week. We have an amazing project waiting in the wings; let’s just say it’s the cutest thing we’ve heard/seen in a long time. Stay tuned; it will be unveiled tomorrow.
Meanwhile, here is a glimpse of how we’re feeling this weekend.
Valley Center family portraits – the Crandalls
November 21, 2009A few weeks ago, Kimm asked if we could do a family session at their house in Valley Center. After agreeing and setting a date, I asked, “How many kids do you have?” The answer: Four.
Four sweet, amazing children–who apparently really enjoy smiling. Or maybe we just caught them on a good day. Either way, if the sun hadn’t gone down I could have gone on taking pictures of these kids for a long, long time. As you can see, the setting was great, too. The horse is theirs (our first family + equine shoot), as are the corrals, trees, and various settings you see in the pictures.
Crandall family, thanks for having us. We had a blast!!!
Aaaaand, the horse. In search of alfalfa. Not even vaguely interested in anything else but hay.
