Cute needs no introduction.
But, just in case, this is our niece, Addison. She is now four months old with a brand new smile. Just lovely. :) :) :)

We are a husband and a wife who take pictures. When we are not shooting, one of us is a journalist, the other a piano teacher. This is the second incarnation of our photo blog, and we hope you enjoy the visual tour of our work. If you are interested in booking, please visit our formal web site.
Brooktown Photography loves good food, traveling, making new friends and going for long walks on the beach.
Please follow us on twitter and @reply us so we know who you are!

Last month, we had the pleasure of meeting 9-day-old Evelyn. She was so sweet and only fussed a little bit as we moved her around and played with the light. And we even got her big brother, Sebastian, in the frame for a few minutes toward the end. What an amazing family; thanks guys (and especially Evelyn) for the great shoot!

I have two favorites from that day, and this is one:

And this is my other (most) favorite:

Jeremiah and Shannon done got hitched two weeks ago, and what a wedding! They had tons of crazy guests at the reception, and we came home with some appropriately crazy poses. Our favorites:

Wow. Just, wow:

The booth was set up right next to the food, so we got quite a bit of traffic at dinnertime.

We had never met Kyle or Tessa until the day when we got together at Seaport Village to shoot their engagement pictures. So we had no idea how tall they were. Or how cool. He’s 6′10″, and they’re both off the charts for knowing how to chillax and look great for the camera. (Revision: Seems I exaggerated a bit–Kyle, I’ve been informed, is “only” 6′8″.) The only bad thing about this couple is that they’re getting married in South Dakota later this year. (Obviously not bad for them, and more like sad for us, since we can’t do their wedding.)
You can probably tell from the length of this post that we spent more time than usual with K&T. Again, that’s because they were so much fun to be with, and every pose was a WIN for Brooktown Photography.
Thanks so much, guys! You are going to have tall kids someday!!!

When Tessa called us to arrange where to meet, she said, “Do you know where the popcorn stand is?”

Seaport is hands down one of the best places in San Diego to watch the sunset. Most days it looks like it’s lowering itself onto the deck of one of the aircraft carriers moored across the bay.

A couple months ago, a good friend called up to ask if we’d shoot his sister’s wedding and engagement photos. It’s always flattering when that happens, and we of course agreed immediately.
Cyrus and Diane are awesome together. We already shot their wedding last week, and it’ll be a few weeks before we get those photos edited and up on the blog. In the meantime, here are a few of the best from their engagement session in downtown San Elijo.

After five years as a full-time local reporter for the North County Times, Tom now writes a weekly column for the Times called “Sincerely Fallbrook.” (An archive of all his stuff since last summer can be found here.) Recently, driving to and from Oceanside, we have noticed that Caltrans is getting ready to widen the road. Tom’s column this Sunday was about the third bridge that’s going to be built over the San Luis Rey River at Vista Way, and so, last week, we headed out to take some pictures at that intersection. The paper didn’t run any of them, so we decided to post them here, nice and big, along with the first part of the column. We hope you enjoy. :)
By TOM PFINGSTEN – For the North County Times
First there was the simple arch bridge —- two stone-and-asphalt lanes built in 1925 to carry motorists over the San Luis Rey River west of Bonsall.
It had style in the same way black-and-white films did. Sophisticated, you might say, especially considering the farms and groves that overlook the antique span.
But then it was too narrow. Passing a big rig was delicate business on your way out to the beach in the 1980s and early ’90s.
So they built another bridge, this one twisting over the river in an elegant curve and wide enough for two trucks to pass each other comfortably.
It felt like a superhighway compared with the original.
But then two lanes were too few.
Sometimes, in the early evening or on a hot Saturday in July, cars would be idling by the dozens atop that big span, their drivers wishing for another lane in each direction.
So, early this year, construction workers cut a swath in the afternoon shadow of the newer bridge, from riverbank to riverbank, and began to prepare for a third bridge.

Last month, we headed down to Live Oak Park in Fallbrook for a couple of family sessions, the first in what we hope will become a series of “Portraits in the Park” afternoons. For more information, shoot us an e-mail. Until then, enjoy.

Addison was born on Jan. 19; we took her pictures on the 29th. (How’s that for being on-the-ball?) She is absolutely beautiful, and pretty mellow. At the beginning of the session, we cranked the heater so we could take off her PJs. Then we set her on a big, fluffy pillow with a soft blanket over it. She was soooo out. But then we started moving her around more, and she woke up and looked around. All in all, we took a couple hundred shots over a period of an hour. Here are the best, along with the three from our initial post.

Oh yeah, and Lorelai was there, too.

Editing our latest engagement session. More to follow, but had to share these two.

Samson. (It’s OK to say “Awww!”)

Can I just say that I love how puppies never get tired of this?

Unfortunately, he’s not ours–technically, he belongs to the Rosas family. But if you ask Joel, the puppy belongs to him. “Samson” has been abbreviated to “Sammy,” which has been further altered to “Hammy” by this little guy.
